Materuni Waterfall and Organic Arabica Coffee Day Trip from Moshi (8/8)

This five-hour day trip runs with private transport from the hotel in Moshi and is built for travellers short on time. The guided walk to Materuni Waterfall takes about 40 minutes and passes coffee and banana plantations, small streams and the traditional irrigation channels used by local farmers. The fall is 80 m high. At a local coffee farm the whole path from bean to cup is covered. Guests pick ripe cherries (seasonal), remove the outer pulp, roast the beans over an open fire and grind them by hand in wooden mortars while Chagga songs and dances go on, then brew and drink a cup of organic Arabica they helped prepare. Throughout the day the Chagga community explains its traditions, culture and daily life. Included are drinking water, a local hot lunch or lunch box, an English-speaking driver and guide, the coffee tour, private transport from the hotel and back, and village entry fees. Tips for the driver and guide and personal items are not. Guiding is offered in German, English, Italian, French and Spanish, and up to 15 travellers can book together. The day suits all fitness levels but is not recommended for travellers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy.
