Materuni Waterfall Hike, Coffee Tour and Hot Picnic Lunch from Moshi
This six-hour day out of Moshi is built around one village, Materuni, home to the Chagga people and only 13 km from Moshi Town on the edge of Kilimanjaro National Park. The route starts at the Materuni Village Office at a time agreed beforehand. A guide leads the walk of about 40 minutes to the waterfall, past coffee and banana trees, and explains Chagga village life and the plants and animals of Kilimanjaro's slopes along the way. The fall is more than 80 metres high, and the pool at its foot is open for a swim, so swimwear belongs in the bag. With some luck the summit of Kilimanjaro shows above the trees. Back in the village comes the coffee. Guests follow the beans from cultivation through drying and roasting to processing, then help grind them while Chagga songs and dances go on around them. The cup at the end is the one they made. A hot lunch cooked by local women is served as a picnic. Included are private transportation, bottled water, lunch, all fees and taxes, and coffee or tea. Alcoholic drinks cost extra. Guiding is in English, and up to 15 travellers can share one booking. A moderate level of fitness is needed. The day is not recommended for travellers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy.

Materuni Waterfalls
Materuni is a Chagga village about 13 km from Moshi Town, next to Kilimanjaro National Park. The group meets at the Materuni Village Office at an agreed time, then walks around 40 minutes to the waterfall. On the way the guide talks about Chagga culture, village life and the surrounding plants and animals, and with a little luck the summit of Kilimanjaro appears. The fall is more than 80 metres high. The pool at its base is good for a swim, so bring swimwear.
