Materuni Waterfalls and Coffee Day Tour from Arusha with Clock Tower Meeting Point
This six-hour day tour starts in Arusha. Travellers who do not need a pickup can meet the guide directly at the Arusha Clock Tower, and transfers to and from Arusha or Moshi are included for everyone else. Private transportation carries the group to the Chagga village below Kilimanjaro, where a hands-on coffee-making session with the local Chagga community is the cultural centrepiece. Walking through local coffee farms, guests follow the process from bean to cup, with guides who talk about the region's culture, history and plants. The hiking trails lead to Materuni Waterfalls, a 70 m fall surrounded by greenery. Along the way there are diverse plant species to look at and, with luck, local birds and wildlife. Mount Kilimanjaro shows up on the route when the weather allows. Village and waterfall fees, private transportation, a local guide, lunch, the transfers, and soft drinks and water (at least 3 litres of bottled water a day) are included, and vegetarian meals can be requested. Tips for the guide, visas and international flights are not. Guiding is in English and up to 15 travellers can book together. Moderate fitness is required. Infants sit on an adult's lap, and specialised infant seats are available. The day is not recommended for travellers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy.
