The main sight at Wadi Shab is a waterfall inside a cave. Reaching it takes a hike of roughly 40 minutes and a swim through two or three pools, which are always full of clear blue water. The wadi is not far from Muscat, which is a large part of its popularity. This private trip picks travelers up from the hotel lobby or anywhere in the Muscat area and drops them back there at the end. The drive to the wadi takes around two hours. Wadi Shab is a large canyon gorge with palm trees and other greenery on its slopes. After the first pools, the route goes on to the last pool, then through the canyon and into the cave. Getting there means squeezing through crevices and openings before the small waterfall appears, falling into cool blue water. Swimming is optional: anyone who prefers to stay dry can wait near the first pools, where the water is shallow. Bring sun protection, a hat, good walking shoes, swimwear, extra clothes, a towel and snacks. The hiking includes some challenging sections. A short stop at the Bimmah Sinkhole follows, where most people take photos or swim in the lake, and then Fins Beach, a long white-sand beach for sitting and relaxing. The scenic drive back to Muscat takes about two hours.
