Private Wadi Shab Day Trip: Crevice Cave Waterfall Swim, Fins Beach, Bimmah Sinkhole
The morning departure from Muscat heads for Wadi Shab, an enormous canyon gorge lined with palm trees. The rock walls show what water coming down from the mountains can do. A walk of 35 to 40 minutes leads up through the canyon, and walking shoes or trainers are required. The walk ends at the first of the crystal clear pools. From there travelers can swim through warm water from pool to pool until they reach the last one. At that pool an opening among the enormous rocks leads into a crevice cave with a small waterfall. Sunlight filters in from outside and turns the water turquoise, while water showers down one side of the cave from the wadi beyond. On the way back, Fins Beach opens onto strikingly white sand and a pebbly shore, with sparkling turquoise water and a soft cool breeze. The Bimmah Sinkhole is the next stop, and swimming in its lake is possible. It is a water-filled depression in the limestone of eastern Muscat Governorate, 50 m by 70 m wide and about 20 m deep, around 600 m from the sea between the coastal towns of Dibab and Bimmah. The surface layer collapsed when the limestone below dissolved, and the local municipality built a park there to preserve it. This is a private day trip, and the drive back to Muscat starts from the sinkhole.
