Sólheimajökull is the centerpiece of this day trip from Reykjavik. The guided hike goes onto the ice of an outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull, with crampons, harness, helmet and ice axe supplied. A certified guide leads the way across the surface, past crevasses and ice formations, and explains how the glacier took shape. Two more stops fill the day. Seljalandsfoss comes first, and when conditions allow, a path leads behind the falling water. Reynisfjara follows, a black sand beach where Atlantic waves roll in under basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks stand offshore. The vehicle is air-conditioned with WiFi on board, and all the equipment for the hike is included. Dinner is not. Travelers need at least a moderate level of fitness, the minimum age is 10, and the hike is not recommended for anyone with poor cardiovascular health. Up to 15 travelers can book together, and guiding is in English.

  1. Seljalandsfoss waterfall

At Seljalandsfoss a path runs behind the curtain of falling water when conditions allow, which shows the cascade from the cliff side. The falls are ringed by cliffs.

  2. Reynisfjara Beach

Reynisfjara has black volcanic sand, strong Atlantic waves, tall basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising out of the water.

  3. Solheimajokull Glacier

Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull, one of Iceland's largest glaciers. Hikers step onto the ice in crampons with safety gear and walk among old ice, formations and deep crevasses while the guide explains how the glacier took shape.
