Tumpak Sewu and Tetes Cave Day Trip from Malang or Surabaya, Air-Conditioned Car

Tumpak Sewu, the "Niagara of Java", is the goal of this day trip, and the way down to its base is part of the trip. A driver and guide pick travelers up from a hotel in Malang or Surabaya at 6:00 or 7:00 AM in an air-conditioned car. The drive to Tumpak Sewu takes 2 hours 30 minutes from Malang and 3 hours from Surabaya, and the driver will stop on request. From the parking area a 10-minute walk leads to the panoramic viewpoint over the falls. Then comes a 30-minute hike down to the base, through river crossings and jungle, on a path that is a little slippery. From the bottom, Tetes Cave Waterfall is another 10 minutes on foot: a cave where water runs over the walls. The group leaves around 12:30 PM, with an expected return to the pick-up point around 3:00 PM. The price covers an English-speaking guide, the air-conditioned vehicle, fuel surcharge and parking. Breakfast, lunch (there can be a stopover on the way back), personal expenses and gratuities are not included. Pack non-slippery sandals, a waterproof bag, a change of clothes and some cash in rupiah. Moderate fitness is required. Not recommended for pregnant travelers, people with a fear of heights, or children under 5 on the trek down. Travelers starting from Malang can be dropped in Surabaya at extra cost.
