Built for waterfall lovers and photographers, this private day trip links Datanla, Pongour and Elephant Falls with a coffee plantation and Crazy House, along countryside roads past local life. Datanla comes in the morning, with an optional alpine coaster ride down through the pine forest (the ticket for the 4 km coaster is extra). Pongour, the main stop of the day, is followed in the afternoon by Elephant Falls and its Wind Cave. The coffee stop is the Me Linh coffee garden in Ta Nung, and the day ends at Crazy House. A local lunch is suggested, such as Com Tam (rice with grilled pork, egg and vegetables), chicken rice or beef pho, and it is paid by the traveler along with personal expenses. Included are the guide, who speaks English and helps with photos, a 500 ml bottle of water, all fees and taxes, and the transport: an air-conditioned vehicle, or an easyrider motorbike for a solo traveler, who rides behind the driver. 1. Datanla Waterfall

The morning starts at Datanla, set under the canopy of primeval jungle, where soft white water slides over rock shelves and drops into the valley below. For an adrenaline ride, the roller coaster runs from the hilltop down to the falls.

  2. Pongour Falls

Pongour is the most important stop of the day, rated the most beautiful and majestic waterfall in the Central Highlands, about 40 m high and over 100 m wide. It runs down seven sandstone steps through unspoiled forest, and the noise of the water carries for miles. Slow shutter speeds turn the flow into soft, wispy streaks in photos.

  3. Elephant Waterfall ( Thac Voi)

In the afternoon, Elephant Falls shows clear water pouring over granite and a veil of white spray. Beside it is the Wind Cave, with a narrow entrance between two cliffs and wide, windy chambers inside. Rocks that appear and vanish in the water look like elephants bathing. The falls are the third largest in Lam Dong Province, 25 km southwest of Da Lat in Nam Ban Town, Lam Ha District, about 30 m high and 15 m wide, and from a distance they look like a white silk strip.

  4. Ta Nung

Me Linh Coffee Garden, at block 20, Village 4, Ta Nung commune, is a small plantation in the mountain countryside near Da Lat, growing Robusta and Moka and best known for pure mink (weasel) coffee. A small coffee farm sits at its foot, facing Me Linh Lake, and the cafe shows how the coffee is collected and made. Weasel coffee, also called civet coffee or Kopi Luwak, is among the most expensive in the world. A souvenir shop sells hand-woven goods made by ethnic minority people. On the way back, a stop at the top of Ta Nung Pass gives panoramic photos before Da Lat.

  5. Crazy House

Hang Nga Villa, now called Crazy House because its first name was already used elsewhere. Its architect, concerned that nature and the environment had been badly damaged by the end of the last century, wanted the building to lead people back to nature. The villa also expresses the architect's way of life and work. The architect studied in Moscow (1959 to 1965, then a doctorate from 1969 to 1972), returned to Hanoi to work in design institutes of the Building and Cultural Ministries, and was transferred to Da Lat in 1983 to the Building Design Institute.
