This is the 4WD coastal trek to Wadi Shab, a full day out of Muscat that is sold as one of the most popular day trips in Oman. The route follows the coast from Muscat to Quriyat, then crosses the plateau and drops down to the wadi. On the way to Wadi Shab the vehicle makes a quick pass by the Bimmah Sinkhole, long enough to take photos before continuing. In the wadi itself the walk is easy, and a picnic is part of the plan. About 40 minutes of walking through the canyon and green terraced gardens brings the group to a series of streams and pools. Swimmers can enter the clear water, then pass through a narrow keyhole into a cave with a waterfall inside. The wadi is strewn with rocks and pebbles, which makes walking difficult, so sturdy walking shoes are advised. After the swim there is a stop at Fins Beach to relax for a while, and a quick pass on the way back to Muscat.
