Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole Group Day Trip from Muscat with Lunch
Wadi Shab is one of the few places in Oman where you can swim in fresh blue water between mountain walls. This group day trip from Muscat covers the canyon, the Bimmah Sinkhole and a lunch stop, in an air-conditioned vehicle with bottled water on board. Pick-up is at your Muscat hotel or at the Al Fair meeting point near the Shell station at Sarooj, depending on the option booked. A third option starts at the Wadi Shab parking area for travelers who get there on their own; it leaves out the sinkhole, the lunch and the Muscat transfer. The drive east takes about two hours, with a stop at a local coffee shop for Omani tea. At the canyon a short boat ride crosses to the far bank, and the hike starts from there. It takes about 40 minutes past rock formations carved by water, and a swim to a hidden waterfall inside a cave is possible. Lunch is chicken or fish with rice, salads and a lemon mint drink, with a vegetarian option (not served during Ramadan). On the way back the group stops at the Bimmah Sinkhole, a turquoise lake in Hawiyat Najm Park, before the drive to Muscat. Up to 15 travelers can book together and guiding is in English. Children under 7 cannot take part, and a moderate level of fitness is needed. The day is not recommended for pregnant travelers or for anyone with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.

Wadi Shab
Wadi Shab lies in the Al Sharqiyah Region: a canyon of clear freshwater pools, waterfalls and high cliffs. The path passes terraced plantations and rock shaped over millennia, mostly on foot with some wading through shallow water. The pools allow a swim, including one to a hidden waterfall inside a cave. Guides add local background on the canyon.

Bimmah Sinkhole
The Bimmah Sinkhole is a turquoise lake in the limestone of eastern Muscat Governorate, about 50 by 70 m across and 20 m deep, roughly 600 m from the sea between Dibab and Bimmah. Geologists explain it as a collapse over dissolved limestone, while locals say a meteorite made it, hence the Arabic name Hawaiyat Najm, 'The Falling Star'. A municipal park, Hawiyat Najm Park, surrounds it, with a stairway down to the water.
