Three private days in Iceland, planned around the group instead of a fixed group itinerary. The route mixes the best-known places with quieter spots away from the crowds, and each day adapts to weather, light and what the travelers want to see. The itinerary covers the Reykjanes peninsula, with the Bridge Between Continents, Reykjanes Lighthouse, Gunnuhver hot springs, Krýsuvík, Kleifarvatn lake and Brimketill. It continues to the Golden Circle, with Þingvellir National Park, Geysir, Gullfoss and Kerið crater, plus the tomato soup buffet at Friðheimar and the Secret Lagoon, the oldest swimming pool in Iceland. The south coast follows, with Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi, Skógafoss, Kvernufoss, Gluggafoss, Reynisfjara, Dyrhólaey, Sólheimajökull and Vík. A dedicated guide leads, and if travelers want, the guide can help take good photos along the way, no experience needed. Private transportation, bottled water, Icelandic snacks, photography services and guidance are included. Accommodation and meals are not. The tour suits all fitness levels, couples and small groups who want a more personal Iceland trip with less rush. Guiding is in English, and a booking takes up to 15 travelers.

Itinerary

The map could not be loaded. Please try again in a moment.

  1. Bridge Between Continents

A footbridge across a fissure, put there to show in a simple way how Iceland sits on the boundary between the North American and European tectonic plates.

  2. Reykjanes Lighthouse

The oldest lighthouse built in Iceland, and an iconic one. It stands on a hill not far from large cliffs that look out over the ocean.

  3. Valahnukamol

The Valahnúkamöl cliffs rise 33 feet out of the ocean. Thousands of years of battering by the elements have left them craggy and weathered.

  4. Gunnuhver Hot Springs

A colorful geothermal field of mud pools and fumaroles. The tale of Gunnuhver is classic Icelandic folklore, bringing together the hardship of island life, ghosts, curses and the saving power of Christianity.

  5. Krysuvik geothermal area

The ground around the hot springs of Krýsuvík is colored green, yellow and red. Columns of steam rise into the sky, and mud pools bubble in a steady rhythm.

  6. Kleifarvatn Lake

Kleifarvatn is the largest lake on the Reykjanes peninsula and the third largest in South Iceland, about 10 km2 in area and 136 meters above sea level. It lies between Sveifluhálsar and Vatnshlíðar, and is up to about 97 meters deep.

  7. Fagradalsfjall Volcano

A valley of freshly cooled lava from the most recent eruption.

  8. Brimketill

A small pool carved by the sea into the lava shore, west of the town of Grindavík.

  9. Grindavik

A fishing town on the Reykjanes Peninsula with a very cozy coffee house.

  10. Reykjanes Peninsula

A long line of sheer lava sea cliffs south of the old fishing hamlet of Hafnir.

  11. Thingvellir National Park

Þingvellir is one of Iceland's great geological sites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Game of Thrones filming location, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. The name means assembly fields. In 930 AD Iceland's parliament, one of the first democratic parliaments in the world, was founded here. Most Icelanders regard Þingvellir as a sacred place, beautiful and central to the nation's history.

  12. Geysir

The Great Geysir is no longer active, but the area is full of steam vents, bubbling pits and hot ponds with colored patches of ground. The main show is Strokkur, which shoots water 20 meters into the air every 5 to 10 minutes and is the high point of the Geysir geothermal field.

  13. Gullfoss Falls

Gullfoss drains Langjökull, Iceland's second-largest glacier. The water first runs down a gentle slope for 11 meters (36 ft), then plunges 21 meters (69 ft) into a deep canyon in a wide drop. The mist it throws up often holds a large rainbow in sunlight.

  14. Kerid Crater

The first stop is Kerið Crater on the Golden Circle, a volcanic crater lake formed around 3,000 years ago. Maroon mineral sediment, dark lava rock and blue water set against each other make its colors famous.

  15. Fridheimar

Friðheimar's own tomato soup, served from a buffet with sour cream, home-baked bread, cucumber salsa, butter and fresh herbs.

  16. Secret Lagoon - Gamla Laugin

The Secret Lagoon, called Gamla Laugin locally, is the oldest swimming pool in Iceland. It was built in 1891 at Hverahólmi, a geothermal area near Flúðir.

  17. Seljalandsfoss waterfall

Seljalandsfoss drops 60 meters (196 ft) and is one of the best-loved waterfalls in South Iceland because a path leads behind it. From behind the curtain of water the south coast looks quite different. The waterfall has appeared in films and music videos. Justin Bieber's video for "I'll Show You" was shot at several South Iceland sites including Seljalandsfoss, and parts of The Amazing Race 6 and CKY2K were filmed nearby.

  18. Gljufrabui waterfall

Gljúfrabúi is a hidden waterfall just off the Ring Road that stayed little known until recently. It is 40 meters (131 ft) high and fed by the river Gljúfurá.

  19. Skogafoss

Skógafoss is one of the biggest waterfalls in Iceland, with a drop of some 60 meters and a width of 25 meters. Visitors can walk right up to it and should expect to get drenched. It is overwhelming to stand beside.

  20. Kvernufoss

Kvernufoss is a 30-meter (98 ft) waterfall half-hidden in a gorge in South Iceland, very close to the Ring Road.

  21. Gluggafoss/Merkjarfoss

Gluggafoss has a rare geological make-up and is one of Iceland's hidden gems. It is part of a series of falls on the river Merkjá. The water drops in two steps, first 146 feet, then 28 feet through three channels, like an inverted trident.

  22. Reynisfjara Beach

Reynisfjara is the most famous beach on Iceland's south coast, with black sand, powerful waves and the nearby Reynisdrangar sea stacks. It has been a filming location for Game of Thrones, Star Wars and others. It is among the best-known black sand beaches in the world, a wild place where Atlantic waves hit the shore with great force. In 1991 it was listed among the ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world.

  23. Dyrholaey

A small peninsula named for its huge black lava arch, the hill-island with a door-hole. Tens of thousands of migrating birds come to the rocks of Dyrhólaey each year to lay their eggs.

  24. Solheimajokull Glacier

A glacier in southern Iceland between the volcanoes Katla and Eyjafjallajökull, an outlet of the larger Mýrdalsjökull glacier.

  25. Vik

The southernmost village of Iceland. Its population is only about 300, but it matters as the biggest settlement in a large area. In summer, with luck, puffins can be spotted here, and there is a good restaurant.
