Hidden Iceland Private South Coast Tour with Lava Show and Solheimajokull Glacier Walk
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
ReykjavikHidden Iceland builds this private south coast day around fire and ice. The fire is the Lava Show in Vík, where real molten lava is on display while the story of Iceland's volcanoes, and how they have affected the town, is told. The ice is Sólheimajökull. A guided walk of 15 to 20 minutes each way leads down the valley to a view of the crevasse-riddled glacier and its lagoon, with time for photos while the guide explains how the glacier and its surroundings are changing. This is a viewing walk, not a glacier hike: the group gets close to the terminal face but does not go onto the ice. Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss are also on the route, and Seljalandsfoss can be walked behind when it is not icy. Reynisfjara black sand beach completes the stops. Vík has a church, cafes and sea views, and is the lunch stop. From November to January, the darkest months, the stop is shortened and lunch is eaten on the go to save daylight. Pickup and drop-off in Reykjavik, transport by luxury vehicle and general entry to the Lava Show are included. Food, drinks and gratuities are not. Waterproof jackets, pants and hiking boots can be rented if pre-booked. A booking takes up to 15 travelers, and the guides speak English. The tour was once also sold as a small group and is now private only.
