Melukat is the Balinese purification rite. The word joins "su", meaning good, with "lukat", meaning purification, and Hindus in Bali perform it with holy water to cleanse the soul of things such as nightmares, illness, anxiety and burdens on the mind. This six-hour outing brings the rite to Taman Beji Griya Waterfall, with a private transfer to the site and back. A priest leads the ceremony, which has four parts: purification under a shower of water in a hidden canyon inside a cave, purification at the springs, a release of emotions in the waterfall, and a last shower in the pool. The price covers the offering, the priest, two young coconuts used in the water blessing, and a healthy drink. A sarong, belt, locker and towel are supplied, so there is little to carry. Alcoholic beverages are not included. For people on Bali, Taman Beji Griya is a place for self-cleansing, calm and healing, and the ceremony is meant to clear the mind and heart of daily saturation and negative influence. The group can have up to 15 travelers. Guiding is in English or Japanese. The trip suits all fitness levels, but it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
