Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss bookend a 12-hour day whose main event is the Katla ice cave. The minibus leaves Reykjavik in the morning from select pick-up points and follows the south coast to Vik, where the last guests join and everyone changes into a specially modified Super Jeep. The jeep goes off-road across volcanic plains to the Katla glacier, an outlet of Myrdalsjokull. A certified glacier guide hands out crampons, a helmet and a headlamp if required, then leads the group into the cave, where blue ice is streaked with black volcanic ash, a pattern compared to the dragon glass of Game of Thrones. Ice caves change with weather, temperature, sunlight and precipitation, so the one visited is the best accessible, naturally formed cave under current conditions and safety, and it may not match the photos. Skogafoss drops 60 metres (197 feet) into a misty pool, and Seljalandsfoss has a footpath behind its 60-metre curtain of water. The minibus has WiFi, and the group is back in Reykjavik in the evening. Food and drinks can be bought at a service station on the way. Bring warm clothing, a waterproof jacket and pants, sturdy hiking boots, a hat and gloves, because these are not provided. Minimum age is 6, up to 15 travelers per booking, all fitness levels.

  1. Reykjavik

The day starts with a morning pick-up from select locations in Reykjavik. The road follows the south coast through villages and terrain shaped by glaciers and volcanoes to Vik, where the final guests join before the group continues east toward the glacier.

  2. Skogafoss

Skogafoss falls 60 metres (197 feet) down a tall cliff into a misty pool. On sunny days rainbows often show up in the spray.

  3. Vik

At Vik the group moves from the minibus into a Super Jeep for the off-road ride to the glacier.

  4. Myrdalsjokull Glacier

The group puts on crampons and steps onto Myrdalsjokull, among blue ice and black volcanic ash, with a certified guide explaining the glacier. Ice caves are natural formations that keep changing with weather, temperature, sunlight and precipitation, so a cave may look different from the photos. Each tour visits the best accessible, naturally formed ice cave, chosen for current conditions and safety.

  5. Seljalandsfoss waterfall

Seljalandsfoss is known for the footpath that goes behind its curtain of water. It falls 60 metres (197 feet) from old sea cliffs, and the spray reaches the path.

  6. Reykjavik

The group returns to Reykjavik in the evening.
