South Coast Small-Group Tours from Reykjavik

17 day listings at roughly 60 to 250 EUR, typically 120 to 250 EUR, plus three 2-day trips. The most-reviewed minibus costs a little less than the most-reviewed bus, and pickup is included in all 20.

The most-reviewed small-group South Coast tour costs 60 to 120 EUR. That is a little less than the most-reviewed bus tour on the neighboring page, and it has 6,676 reviews at 4.8. Small group does not mean premium on this coast. Twelve of the twenty listings are plain ten-hour days at roughly 60 to 250 EUR, and the price climbs only when something is added: a glacier hike, a Katla ice cave, a spa, a plane wreck, a night's lodging. This page sorts the twenty by what they add, says what "small group" does and does not promise, and separates the three 2-day listings, which are overnight trips and not day tours. The coast itself, from Seljalandsfoss to Vík, is on the South Coast page.

The numbers describe the 20 listings we read on 22 October 2026, Check the operator's own page for exactly what a booking includes. If you would rather have a full-size coach, the classic waterfall tours page covers the cheapest of those. If the vehicle should be yours alone, the private tours page lists it, mostly as one price for the whole booking, and the glacier page reads the hikes and ice caves in detail.

What a small-group South Coast tour promises

Three of the listings we opened, the Your Day Tours day and two Arctic Adventures days, say "Up to 15 travelers per booking". That is a ceiling on one reservation. It is not a seat count, and none of the three gives the size of the vehicle. Civitatis, which resells a South Coast day on the classic waterfall tours page, says its small-group option is capped at 19, the same figure Guide to Iceland uses for its own minibus days. One BusTravel Iceland listing on the glacier page states a maximum group of 65, which is the other end of the scale.

"Up to 15 travelers per booking" limits one reservation. It does not tell you how many seats the minibus has.

In practice, then, small group means a minibus somewhere around 15 to 19 seats, with pickup at designated stops and a guide who also drives. Your Day Tours lists a "small group guarantee" among its inclusions. Ask for the number before you pay if the difference matters to you.

A visitor standing on the fuselage of the abandoned DC-3 on the black sand plain

The DC-3 wreck and 13.5 hours

One listing adds a stop that the cheapest day does not have. The Arctic Adventures "Highlights" day runs 13.5 hours for 120 to 250 EUR and includes a shuttle from the Sólheimasandur parking lot to the DC-3 wreck, which its text calls an abandoned US Navy aircraft. Without the shuttle the listing describes an almost two-hour walk across the black sand.

The same day adds Dyrhólaey and the church in Vík, and it visits the Sólheimajökull glacier for viewing only. It does not include a hike onto the ice. That is the kind of detail that separates two listings with "glacier" in the title.

A hike costs a little more than the standard day and adds two to three and a half hours. The Katla cave costs nearly twice the standard day. The 2-day trips are a different product: they are overnight, so a price of 500 to 1,000 EUR cannot be set against the day listings. The floor, under 120 EUR, is shared by two listings, Your Day Tours with its 6,676 reviews and an Arctic Adventures day with 212.

The most-reviewed minibus costs less than the most-reviewed bus

On the classic waterfall tours page the largest listing is BusTravel Iceland in the 120 to 250 EUR band with 3,430 reviews. Here the largest, Your Day Tours, is a little cheaper, with 6,676, and it alone carries 54% of every review on this page. That concentration is worth a second look. The page rating, 4.81, would be fragile if it rested on one listing, but it does not: the other 19 listings, with 5,631 reviews, average 4.83.

Dot chart of South Coast small-group day listings by length and price, mostly at ten hours between roughly 60 and 250 EUR
Each dot is one day listing by length and price; the three 2-day trips are left out. The dashed line is the median of all 20, and the 17 day tours alone sit just below it. · Waterfalls Travel Editorial, from the prices of the tours listed on this site

Most of the dots stack at ten hours between roughly 60 and 250 EUR. The stragglers are all add-ons: the hike days at 12 and 13.5 hours, the cave at the top of the range, the spa near it. The median of all 20 describes the page well enough, but a plain day costs a little less.

The white lighthouse on the Dyrhólaey promontory under a blue sky

Dyrhólaey, a viewpoint before Vík

The Dyrhólaey stop in the DC-3 listing is a promontory about 120 m high, with views west along the coast and east to the Reynisdrangar sea stacks, a stone arch carved by the sea and a white lighthouse that the listing says has stood for over a century.

The cheapest day we opened does not include it. If a viewpoint matters more to you than a waterfall stop, check the itinerary stop by stop. Small-group listings differ in what they skip to keep to ten hours.

Who runs the twenty

Thirteen operators sell these listings, and three of them sell more than one. Arctic Adventures has four that span the whole ladder: the plain day, the hike, the DC-3 day and the Katla cave, all in the 60 to 250 EUR range. Nicetravel has a day in the 120 to 250 EUR band and two of the three 2-day trips, both in the 500 to 1,000 EUR band. BusTravel Iceland has a day in the 120 to 250 EUR band, the spa day in the same band and the third 2-day trip in the 500 to 1,000 EUR band. Everyone else has one listing, among them EastWest with 723 reviews and a 4.9 rating, and Iceland Horizon with 342 reviews, also 4.9, both in the 120 to 250 EUR band.

Glacier hikes and the Katla ice cave

Two listings put you on the ice: Troll Expeditions at 120 to 250 EUR for 12 hours with 869 reviews, and Arctic Adventures in the same band for 13.5 hours with 373. Both are rated 4.8. The glacier page reads what a hike involves, from crampons to the minimum age, so here only the price matters: you pay a little extra for the privilege.

The Katla ice cave is the dearest day listing, at the top of the 120 to 250 EUR band for 12 hours. The minibus drives to Vík, where you move into a modified Super Jeep for the off-road run to the glacier, and glacier gear is included. The minimum age is 6. It has 343 reviews at 4.5, the lowest rating of any listing here with more than 100 reviews.

The listing promises "the best accessible, naturally formed ice cave available". It does not promise the cave in the photos.

Questions about small-group South Coast tours

Is a small-group South Coast tour worth more than a bus tour?

On this coast the price gap is small or absent. The most-reviewed minibus day and the most-reviewed bus day on the classic waterfall tours page sit almost level, the minibus a little cheaper. What you pay extra for sits on the itinerary: a hike, a cave, a spa. Whether a smaller vehicle changes your day is something reviews can tell you and price cannot.

How many people are in a small group?

The Viator listings we opened cap one booking at 15 travelers, and Civitatis caps its small-group option at 19. None states a seat count for the vehicle. If you care about the number, ask the operator for the maximum before you book.

Does the small-group tour include lunch?

No, none of the 20 listings does. The standard day stops for lunch at Reynisfjara, where there is a café, and the Katla listing points to a service station on the way. Bring food or budget for it.

Can I do a glacier hike on a small-group South Coast tour?

Yes, on two listings: 120 to 250 EUR for 12 hours with Troll Expeditions and the same band for 13.5 hours with Arctic Adventures. Not every glacier stop is a hike. The DC-3 listing says its Sólheimajökull stop is for viewing and does not include a guided hike, so look for crampons in the inclusions.

Are the 2-day small-group tours day tours?

No. They are overnight trips at 500 to 1,000 EUR and are priced and built differently, so keep them out of any comparison with the roughly 60 to 250 EUR day listings. The glacier page has more 2-day options.

What do people get wrong when booking a small-group tour?

They compare the 2-day listings with day tours, assume pickup means the hotel door, and ignore cruise timing. Your Day Tours picks up at designated bus stops or the cruise terminal, asks cruise passengers for the ship name and docking time, and returns at about 6:00 pm, so check that against the all-aboard time. The same operator can change routes and departure times for safety, and Civitatis warns that the order of visits may change.

Want the minibus to yourself?

Private South Coast tours typically list above 1,000 EUR, mostly as one price for the whole booking.
