Private 2-Day Angkor Sunrise, Banteay Srei, Kulen Mountain and Beng Mealea Tour
A private two-day tour with a certified guide and driver, planned to dodge the big tour groups and flexible about last-minute requests. Day one opens at 4:45 am with sunrise at Angkor Wat and a visit to the temple, then a packed breakfast and Angkor Thom (the gate with its Buddha and asura figures, the Bayon, Baphuon, Phimeanakas and both terraces), Ta Prohm and, after lunch, Banteay Srei, known for some of the best temple carving in Cambodia. The drive passes rice paddies and village homes, with a possible stop at a palm sugar village or the Land Mine Museum if asked. Day two begins at 8:00 am with Kulen Mountain, one of Cambodia's most sacred mountains: the cool waterfall for a swim, the 1000 Lingas on the holy river and the large reclining Buddha. The day ends at Beng Mealea, a jungle temple where trees grow from the stone walls. Included are the guide for all the main temples, an air-conditioned car or van, and cold water and towels. The Angkor ticket, the Phnom Kulen ticket, food and drink (from about 6 USD) and tips are not included. Up to 15 travelers can book together, a moderate level of fitness is recommended, and the vehicle is wheelchair accessible.

Angkor Wat
Day 1: the guide and driver meet the group in the hotel lobby at 4:45 am for sunrise at Angkor Wat, and help with buying tickets first. After sunrise the group visits the temple itself, the largest religious temple in the world. A packed breakfast follows (travelers whose hotel includes breakfast should ask for it to be packed). Next is Angkor Thom: its gate with large carved Buddha and asura figures, the Bayon with its Buddha faces, Baphuon (a Hindu temple built 121 years before the Bayon), Phimeanakas in the middle of the former royal palace, the Terrace of the Elephants, a view of Suprat and the Terrace of the Leper King. Ta Prohm comes along a shady path, with giant tree roots over the stonework and a Tomb Raider connection. After lunch (paid by each traveler) the group goes to Banteay Srei, the pink lady temple, older than Angkor Wat and carved in fine detail. Along the way are rice paddies, village homes, a possible palm sugar village stop and, on request, the Land Mine Museum. The day ends with a drop-off at the hotel.

Phnom Kulen National Park
Day 2: lobby pickup at 8:00 am. The first stop is to buy the Kulen mountain ticket (20 USD per person, paid by the traveler). Kulen is one of the most sacred mountains in Cambodia, and the former Khmer capital stood to its north before the move to Angkor. Visitors see where Tomb Raider was filmed, swim in the cool waterfall, see the 1000 Lingas on the holy river and visit the large reclining Buddha at the top, built in the 16th century by a Buddhist king when Cambodia's religion changed to Buddhism. After lunch (paid by each traveler) comes a stop for the Beng Mealea ticket (5 USD per person; it is included in the Angkor ticket), then Beng Mealea, an untouched temple in the jungle with trees and plants growing from the stone walls.
