Eight stops are fitted into a day of 9 to 11 hours on this private south coast tour from Reykjavik. It starts with the geothermal activity around Hveragerði, continues past Selfoss to Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, and includes Sólheimajökull glacier, an outlet of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap and one of the easiest glaciers to reach from Reykjavik, only 158 kilometers (98 miles) away. The route is planned to keep driving time short and leave more time at each stop. On the coast the group visits Dyrhólaey, a peninsula 120 meters high with a historic lighthouse, birdlife and a rock arch of the same name, and Reynisfjara, the black sand beach beside Vík í Mýrdal. The final stop is Vík Church, on a hill above the village, where the view takes in the Reynisdrangar sea stacks and, in summer, puffins can be watched. Vík lies between the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and the Atlantic Ocean and is known for black sand beaches and basalt columns. Fuel, parking fees, road tolls, passenger insurance, Wi-Fi and pickup and drop-off at the accommodation are included, with a licensed driver-guide in English or Russian. Alcoholic drinks and lunch are not. A booking takes up to 15 travelers.

  1. Hveragerdi

Hveragerði lies 45 kilometers (28 miles) east of Reykjavik, on a large geothermal area. It is the gateway town to South Iceland, and its many greenhouses earned it the name flower village.

  2. Selfoss

Selfoss has grown much faster than the national average in recent years. The major nature sights of the south are all within an hour's drive, among them the Golden Circle, the south coast waterfalls and the black sand beaches.

  3. Seljalandsfoss waterfall

One of the best-known waterfalls in Iceland, about 60 meters tall.

  4. Dyrholaey

The Dyrhólaey peninsula rises 120 meters and is known for views over Iceland's south coast, a historic lighthouse and plenty of birdlife. A rock arch of the same name stands here.

  5. Reynisfjara Beach

Reynisfjara is a world-famous black sand beach on the south coast, right beside Vík í Mýrdal, the southernmost village on the Icelandic mainland.

  6. Solheimajokull Glacier

Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. Only 158 kilometers (98 miles) from Reykjavik, it is among the easiest glaciers to reach from the city.

  7. Skogafoss

Skógafoss is among the biggest waterfalls in Iceland, with a drop of some 60 meters and a width of 25 meters. Visitors can walk right up to it and should expect to get drenched. It is overwhelming to stand beside.

  8. Vik Church

Vík í Mýrdal is a village on the south coast, known for black sand beaches, basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks. It sits between the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and the Atlantic Ocean. The hilltop church gives scenic views, and puffins can be watched in summer.
