Jökulsárlón is the highlight of this private tour of Iceland's south coast, and the plan includes a sailing excursion among the icebergs in an amphibious vehicle. The icebergs float in shades of white and blue. The road to the lagoon runs through lava fields, past mountains and glaciers to the southernmost part of Iceland. Along the way the tour stops at the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss and at Reynisfjara, a black beach with a cliff of basalt columns, sea stacks standing in the water and a lively bird colony. Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lake on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park. It formed after the glacier began to recede from the Atlantic shore, and it now lies 1.5 kilometers from the ocean, covers about 18 km2 and is deeper than 248 meters, which makes it the deepest lake in Iceland. The price is per vehicle. The group travels in an air-conditioned vehicle sized to its numbers: a 5-seat car for 1 to 4 people, a 10-seat car for 5 to 8 and a 16-seat bus for 9 to 16. Parking fees are included, lunch and snacks are not. The tour starts in downtown Reykjavik by the old harbour, with guiding in English or Mandarin.

  1. Geirsgata 7a, Reykjavík

In downtown Reykjavik by the old harbour.

  2. Seljalandsfoss waterfall

The river Seljalandsá drops 60 meters over cliffs that once formed the coastline, and a path leads behind the fall. About 500 meters northwest is another waterfall, Gljúfrabúi, which is worth the short walk.

  3. Skogafoss

Skógafoss has a width of 25 meters and a drop of 60 meters, which places it among the biggest waterfalls in Iceland. Its constant spray usually makes a single or double rainbow on sunny days.

  4. Reynisfjara Beach

Reynisfjara is a black pebble beach with a cliff of regular basalt columns that looks like a rocky stepped pyramid. Basalt sea stacks of unusual shapes stand out in the water.

  5. Reynisdrangar

The area has plenty of birdlife, including puffins, fulmars and guillemots.

  6. Jokulsarlon

Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lake on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park. It became a lake when the glacier began to recede from the Atlantic shore. Today it lies 1.5 kilometers from the ocean, covers about 18 km2 and is over 248 meters deep, recently making it the deepest lake in Iceland. It counts among the natural wonders of Iceland.
