Tailor-Made Private South Coast Day Tour with Flexible Pickup and Optional Blue Lagoon
Pickup time and pickup and drop-off locations are flexible on this tailor-made private day tour of the south coast. The itinerary is fully customizable: the operator works with the group to build a plan around its interests, and a knowledgeable, friendly local guide shares stories about the region's history, culture and natural sights. The planned stops are Seljalandsfoss, where a path leads behind the falling water, Skógafoss, with stairs alongside the fall, Dyrhólaey, a promontory with a lighthouse and a natural rock arch, Reynisfjara black sand beach and its sea stacks, and the village of Vík í Mýrdal, which lies between the Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers. The Blue Lagoon is optional. It can be added by contacting the operator and is charged separately, because its admission fee is not part of the tour price. Travelers who want it need to pay extra, and the transfer to the lagoon is charged separately too. Private transportation in an air-conditioned vehicle with WiFi, bottled water, pickup and drop-off in downtown Reykjavik and an experienced guide are included. Gratuities, food and drinks are not. The vehicle is wheelchair accessible, a booking takes up to 15 travelers, and guiding is in English or Hindi.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall
Seljalandsfoss is about 60 meters high and fed by a glacier river from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Its special feature is the path behind the falling water. The spray makes a misty air that often produces rainbows, and the pool below is framed by greenery and rocky cliffs. Trails around the fall give a wider view of the scenery, and the area is known for birds, wildflowers and mosses. Glúfrafoss waterfall is nearby.
-
Skogafoss
Skógafoss is one of the most impressive waterfalls in Iceland, 60 meters high and 25 meters wide, dropping into a small lagoon from the Skógá River. Its roar carries a long way. Visitors can walk right up to it and feel the mist, and sun often brings a rainbow. A staircase beside the fall climbs to a viewpoint, and the Skógar Museum nearby tells of Icelandic culture.
-
Dyrholaey
Dyrhólaey is a promontory on the south coast, formed in a volcanic eruption about 100,000 years ago from alternating layers of lava and ash that have worn into the shape of the cliffs. A lighthouse built in 1910 still operates and looks over Reynisfjara and the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. The natural rock arch over the sea is the Dyrhólaey Arch, and visitors can walk to the top for views of it and the coastline. Seabirds such as puffins, guillemots and kittiwakes can be watched from designated viewing areas.
-
Reynisfjara Beach
Reynisfjara is known for black sand, basalt columns and strong waves. The sand and columns trace back to volcanic eruptions in the area, and cooling lava flows made the columns, which the waves later shaped. Out in the water stand the Reynisdrangar sea stacks, said to be two trolls turned to stone by sunrise as they dragged a three-masted ship to shore. Visitors can walk the sand and watch the waves, but the waves are strong and call for caution.
-
Vik
Vík í Mýrdal is a small village in the south of Iceland with dramatic scenery. Its black sand beaches and basalt columns date to the last Ice Age. It lies between the Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers, and Eyjafjallajökull erupted in 2010. The village was founded in the late 19th century, and its church, from 1934, is a landmark. A local museum covers the region's past, and other activities include glacier tours, horseback riding, the Lava Show and ATV rides.
-
Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon is an optional stop: a geothermal spa with milky blue water rich in silica and other minerals, set in a lava field near Reykjavik. Its warm water contrasts with the black volcanic ground around it, and it is one of Iceland's most popular attractions.
