Ubud is better known for culture and food than for its waterfalls, yet four of the area's best sit within a day's drive of each other. This nine-hour tour covers them in one go, in a private car with an English-speaking driver, and finishes with a look at Ubud Palace. Tukad Cepung comes first, a canyon fall reached by about ten minutes of stairs and a wade through streams. It is at its best in the morning, when sunbeams slip into the gorge. Tibumana follows. It is not the biggest fall in Bali, but the palm-lined road before the car park is a photo stop of its own, and the flat trail down passes through jungle toward nearby villages. Kanto Lampo is a picture of water running over stacked rocks, reached in about five minutes down roughly 50 steps, and visitors can swim or stand under it. Tegenungan is the most popular of all, with a well-kept path of about 100 steps, a green valley view and room to swim. Ubud Palace, or Puri Saren, was built around 1820 by Ida Tjokorda Putu Kandel, King of Ubud, and began as the seat of government. The price covers bottled water, a car with extra-strong air conditioning, fuel, parking and toll roads, and pickup and drop-off in Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Sanur and Ubud. Lunch and entrance tickets are not included. Up to 15 travelers can book together, infants ride on an adult's lap, and all fitness levels are welcome.
