Unhurried South Coast Day Tour: Gljufrabui Walk, Vik Church, 30 Minutes at Skogafoss
Local guides run this 10-hour day tour from Reykjavik at an unhurried pace, in Mercedes Sprinter minibuses, with a guide who covers Iceland's history, geography and folklore and tells tales along the way. Seljalandsfoss comes first, with the option to walk behind the fall. A short hike follows to its neighbour Gljufrabui, "the one who lives in the mountain", a waterfall hidden inside the rock that is easy to find once the route is known. The group then continues to Vik i Myrdal, a small village and one of the most photographed in Iceland, whose church appears in many photo ads and offers a wide view; the lunch break is taken here. At Reynisfjara black sand beach the Reynisdrangar cliffs stick out of the sea, and the tides can sneak up on visitors, so care is needed. Solheimajokull is reached on foot, to the edge of the glacier, close enough to say you have stepped onto it. Skogafoss is 60 metres high and gets 30 minutes of the day. Total travelling time between sights is 5 hours, lunch included. WiFi on board, the guide and parking fees are included. Lunch and other meals are not. Prams, strollers and infant seats are possible. Up to 15 travelers per booking, with guiding in English.
