This 10-hour minibus tour from Reykjavik is run by Your Day Tours and follows the south coast eastward with a small-group guarantee and an English-speaking guide. Seljalandsfoss is a 65-metre drop on the Seljalandsa River, with a path that leads behind the water and gets walkers a little wet. Skogafoss, 25 metres wide with a 60-metre drop, has a staircase up to a viewing platform. At Solheimajokull the walk heads up the valley the glacier carved, past rock, gravel and sand and along the river at its base, to a glacier tongue striped with layers of ash. Reynisfjara is the sightseeing and lunch stop, with basalt columns, a natural arch seen from afar, troll-like sea stacks and, in summer, thousands of puffins on the cliffs. A short photo stop at Vik's church follows, and the drive back to Reykjavik, with stories of trolls and elves, ends at around 6:00 PM. Included are pick-up and drop-off at designated bus stops or the cruise terminal, WiFi, an air-conditioned vehicle and all fees and taxes. Lunch is paid for separately, and luggage cannot be carried or stored. Groups are capped at 15 travelers per booking, children must be with an adult, and cruise passengers must give ship name and docking and re-boarding times when booking.

  1. Reykjavik

The day starts with a pickup in downtown Reykjavik, then the minibus heads east toward the South Coast.

  2. Skogafoss

Skogafoss is 25 metres wide and drops 60 metres. A staircase leads to a viewing platform above the falls with views of the coast and the Eyjafjallajokull glacier, and the fall can also be admired from below. Restrooms are on site.

  3. Solheimajokull Glacier

Solheimajokull is a tongue of the larger Myrdalsjokull glacier. The walk goes through the valley the ice carved and along the glacier river at its base, over rocks, gravel and sand ground down by the tongue. Layers of ash stripe the ice, and active volcanoes surround it. Restrooms are on site.

  4. Reynisfjara Beach

The black sand beach has basalt columns, a natural arch in the distance, troll-like sea stacks and, in summer, thousands of puffins nesting on the cliffs. Sightseeing and the lunch break both happen here. Restrooms and a cafe/restaurant are on site.

  5. Vik

A short photo stop at the village of Vik, by the church, where the basalt stacks and the houses make a good backdrop. On the drive back to the city the guide tells stories of the trolls in the rocks and the elves, with arrival in Reykjavik at around 6:00 PM.

  6. Seljalandsfoss waterfall

Seljalandsfoss has a path that runs behind the falling water, so expect to get a little wet. The drop is 65 metres, on the Seljalandsa River, which starts at the Eyjafjallajokull glacier, whose 2010 eruption disrupted transatlantic flights. Restrooms, a food stall and a gift shop are on site.
