Niagara Falls American side tour: Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds

20 tours, typically 60 to 120 EUR for 3 hours. The boat alone has its own ticket at the dock, and in 2026 it runs until 8 November.

A Niagara Falls American side tour typically costs 60 to 120 EUR for about 3 hours, and 11 of the 20 listings put both the Maid of the Mist and the Cave of the Winds into that price. The cheapest, under 60 EUR, is a 2-hour guided walk with the boat included. The dearest, in the 120 to 250 EUR band, crosses the border for a 6-hour day with lunch. This page goes through the 20 listings in turn: what they include, why the price moves, who runs them and which mistakes to avoid, and what changes once the boat stops running on 8 November. It leaves out how the falls formed and how the 1950 treaty works, which the Niagara Falls page covers.

Three sister pages cover the rest of the falls: the Canadian Side page covers the other boat and the tunnel behind the Horseshoe, Niagara Falls Tours from Toronto is the coach day, and Niagara Falls at Night covers the evenings. The trips from New York, Day Trips and Multi-Day Tours from New York, are the long ones. Prices are per person, as the provider listed them on 22 October 2026, and none of the 20 listings is a private tour, so no price here is for a whole group. Ratings and review counts are the provider's own, taken from the provider's pages on the same day, and the page figures weight each rating by its number of reviews.

What the American side of Niagara Falls is

The American shore is Niagara Falls State Park, which by its own claim is the oldest state park in continuous operation in the country, with Goat Island in the middle, the Observation Tower at Prospect Point and a pedestrian walk to the edge of the American Falls. From here Bridal Veil is close and the Horseshoe is a side view. The boat is what takes you into the Horseshoe's basin, which is why most listings on this page are built around it. The Canadian shore has the front view; this one has the water at arm's length.

What the 20 listings sell

The 20 listings sorted by what each title promises, in rounded price bands, read on 22 October 2026
Format Listings Price band Length What the title names
Boat only530 to 120 EUR2 to 3 hoursMaid of the Mist; three of the five add a guided walk
Boat and Cave of the Winds1160 to 120 EUR2.5 to 4 hoursBoth attractions, a guide, and in some a shuttle or hotel pickup
Small group1120 to 250 EUR3 hoursA boutique tour for at most six; the title names neither attraction
Winter walk160 to 120 EUR2 hoursCave of the Winds and icicles, with no boat
Across the border2120 to 250 EUR6 hoursBoth shores in one day, a tower view, and lunch in one of them

We sorted by what each title names and opened the ones that looked odd, so read the inclusions on the listing you choose. The five boat-only listings are the ones where the Cave of the Winds is not named. It is a separate ticket, and in winter the park sells it on site and not online.

What a guide adds on the walk

The cheapest listing, under 60 EUR, meets in front of the Hard Rock Cafe at 333 Prospect Street. The guide walks you through the State Park to Prospect Point, then to the Observation Tower, and an elevator takes you down to the boat. The listing includes the boat admission, the tower and a souvenir poncho. It warns that parking near the Hard Rock is expensive and limited, and points to free parking at the Seneca Casino.

In the 60 to 120 EUR band, the Daredevil walking tour adds the stunts of the people who tried the falls and a timed reservation for Cave of the Winds, which its listing says skips the long line. The second half of the day is on your own on Goat Island, with the Niagara Scenic Trolley.

What the official tickets cost, and what the tour adds

American-side admission for 2026, as published by the two operators
Attraction 2026 dates Admission
Maid of the MistSails 24 April to 8 November; last departures earlier after 28 September (9:00 to 17:00), and 9:00 to 16:00 in the final weekAdult rate; ages 6 to 12 pay a lower child rate; ages 5 and under ride free
Cave of the Winds, winter scheduleFrom 19 October 2026 to 31 March 2027, open 9:00 to 16:00 except 26 November, 25 December and 1 JanuaryAdult and youth rates; bought at Goat Island or the Welcome Center and not through the web site

The park page we read gives the winter schedule only, so we do not quote a summer price for the cave. The boat is easier, and the cheapest listing includes it together with a guided walk and the observation deck. That is the best test of a tour on this page. Subtract the boat ticket from the price and ask what the rest buys.

The cheap listings buy you the boat and a guide. The ones that cost more add the Cave of the Winds and an hour or two.
A Maid of the Mist boat in front of the American Falls at Niagara, with rocks at the foot

The boat

Where the Maid of the Mist goes

The boat crosses in front of the American and Bridal Veil falls on the way to the Horseshoe's basin, according to the Daredevil listing, which puts the ride at 20 minutes. The listings say ponchos are handed out at the boat and, in those that include it, at the Cave of the Winds. Expect spray.

The season matters. The boat runs until 8 November in 2026, so in a listing that sells the American side later in the year, ask what replaces it.

What moves the price

Chart of the prices of the 20 American Side: Maid of the Mist & Cave of the Winds listings on waterfalls.travel, median 99.7 EUR
Each dot is one of the 20 listings, by length and price. Two hours buys the boat, three to four hours add the cave, six hours cross the border. · Waterfalls Travel Editorial, from the prices of the tours listed on this site

Hours explain part of the price and not all of it. The five 2-hour listings run from roughly 30 to 120 EUR. The six 3-hour listings run from roughly 60 to 250 EUR, a wider spread than the four 4-hour listings in the 60 to 120 EUR band. The dearest 3-hour one is a small group capped at six people. The cheapest is Gray Line's "at a Glance" tour with the boat. In the 60 to 120 EUR band, Over the Falls Tours sells 4 hours with hotel pickup, and Gray Line sells 3 hours that start at the Red Coach Inn. The two 6-hour listings, both in the 120 to 250 EUR band, are the only ones that leave the American shore.

Who runs the tours

Nine operators sell the 20 listings, and three of them hold 91% of the 30,679 reviews. Over the Falls Tours has four listings and 69% of the reviews, with its two largest at 10,140 and 8,875. Gray Line has three, Niagara Regional Tours four, and Niagara Tour Company two. The lowest ratings are on small listings: the cheapest walk has 4.4 on 439 reviews, and two others are at 4.5 on about 130. The best-evidenced 5.0 is the American Side Express, in the 60 to 120 EUR band for 3.5 hours, on 1,771 reviews. A rating built on 120 reviews is not the same evidence as one built on 10,000, and the page ranks nothing by stars alone.

Both shores in one day

The two 6-hour listings leave from both cities and cross the border by coach. They add the Skylon Tower and the Canadian viewpoints to the boat and the Cave of the Winds. Both listings warn that guests must carry a valid passport or other accepted border papers, and one makes you call the operator a day ahead. When the Maid of the Mist is closed for the season, they swap it: one puts in Journey Behind the Falls, the other a boat on the Canadian side while it operates. If you want the Canadian attractions without the American ones, the Canadian Side page is the better page to read.

After 8 November

Winter changes the list. One listing says that from November to April "New York Power Vista" replaces the boat. Another is a 2-hour small-group winter walk in the 60 to 120 EUR band, which skips the boat and takes the Cave of the Winds walkway, where its listing says icicles can reach 30 feet. Its group is limited to 12. Cave of the Winds itself has a separate adult ticket on the winter schedule.

Mistakes people make on this side

People expect the Horseshoe up close from the shore. It is a side view from this side, and the boat is the way in. They book a boat listing for late November, and the boat stopped on 8 November. They read the price as the whole cost, when gratuities and parking sit outside several of the listings. And they assume a hotel pickup, which only 9 of the 20 offer, by the catalog's count.

Questions about the American side of Niagara Falls

Is the Maid of the Mist included in the tour price?

Yes in five of the six listings we opened in full, and the sixth is the winter walk, which has no boat. The boat is the biggest part of that price, so a listing under 60 EUR is mostly the boat plus a guide. Check the inclusions of the one you pick.

How long is a Niagara Falls American side tour?

The median is 3 hours. The five boat-only listings are 2 to 3 hours, the boat and cave listings 2.5 to 4, and the two cross-border days are 6. The 2-hour listings cost roughly 30 to 120 EUR, the 3-hour ones roughly 60 to 250 EUR and the 4-hour ones 60 to 120 EUR, so an extra hour mostly buys the Cave of the Winds and not more time at the water.

Which side of Niagara Falls is better, American or Canadian?

The Canadian side for the view of the Horseshoe, the American side for getting close to the water. The Horseshoe faces the Canadian side. The two 6-hour listings on this page cover both, and the Niagara Falls page compares the sides in more detail.

Can I visit Cave of the Winds in winter?

Yes. The park says it is open year-round, on a winter schedule that runs until 31 March 2027, with its own adult ticket. The park sells it on site and not online. A small-group winter listing in the 60 to 120 EUR band walks it among icicles.

Will I get wet on the Maid of the Mist?

Expect spray. The listings that include the boat say they hand out ponchos there, and the ones that include Cave of the Winds say the same at the Hurricane Deck. We could not check either on the park's own pages, so read it as the listing's promise.

Do I need a passport for the American side?

Only the two 6-hour listings cross the border, and their text asks for a passport or other accepted border papers. The others stay in Niagara Falls, New York, so the question is your own entry to the United States, which has rules for your nationality.

Seen the American side, want the other one?

The Niagara Falls page sets both shores side by side, with the treaty, the tickets and the five kinds of tour.

Data verified on . 20 Viator listings read on 22 Oct 2026, six opened in full. Admission and dates from Maid of the Mist and the New York state park; the icicle claim is the operator's.
