Niagara Falls at Night: Illuminations, Fireworks and 20 Night Tours
Four of the 20 night tours are fireworks walks sold for a season that ended on 12 October 2026. The lights run every night of the year, from 6:00 PM in late October and 4:30 PM from 1 November.
Four of the 20 Niagara Falls night tours are 90-minute walks priced under 60 EUR, and all four have fireworks in the title. The 2026 fireworks ended on 12 October. The lights did not: they come on at 6:00 PM from 16 to 31 October and at 4:30 PM from 1 November, every night of the year. That difference decides which of the 20 listings still make sense after the finale. This page sorts them into three kinds, gives the official lighting calendar, and says what the falls actually look like after dark. For the sights by day, see the Niagara Falls page; for the bank you start from, the Canadian side and American side pages.
The numbers describe 20 listings read on 22 October 2026, and the main ones were opened in full. Prices are per person, including one private tour in the 120 to 250 EUR band; only the private night tour above 500 EUR quotes one price for the whole group. Calendar facts come from Niagara Parks and describe 2026. Where a listing and the official calendar disagree, we say so, because some do. Treat star ratings with care: 13 of the 20 listings have fewer than 100 reviews, so a single bad night can move the score.

Niagara Falls at night: what is on and when
The illumination is the constant. Niagara Parks says the falls are lit every night of the year, switched off at 2:00 AM, and the Niagara Falls Illumination Board has run the lighting since 1925. Programmable LEDs arrived in 2016. The start time shifts through the year, and we have it only for the dates in the table: 8:30 PM in mid-May through July, 6:00 PM from 16 to 31 October and 4:30 PM from 1 November to the end of December.
| Event | When | Start | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Illumination, mid-May to July | Every night | 8:30 PM | Off at 2:00 AM |
| Illumination, late October | 16 to 31 October | 6:00 PM | Off at 2:00 AM |
| Illumination, winter | 1 November to 31 December | 4:30 PM | Off at 2:00 AM |
| Nightly fireworks | 15 May to 12 October 2026 | 10:00 PM | Over for 2026 |
| Long fireworks shows | 1 and 4 July | Not stated | Longer than the nightly show |
| New Year's Eve fireworks | 31 December | 8:00 PM and midnight | The next display on the calendar |
The lights do not stop in November. The nightly fireworks did, on 12 October.
Watching from the railing
The lights and fireworks are shown over the gorge whether or not you buy a tour. What the listings sell is everything around the show: a guide, a boat, a table and a ride home. The walking tours on the American side meet at Prospect Street and watch the fireworks from Terrapin Point at 10:00 PM. The Canadian walk, under 60 EUR, starts at the Skylon Tower and ends at a viewing spot the guide chooses.
Check the side before you pay. Four titles say USA side, while the Toronto coaches and the Skylon walk are on the Canadian bank. One American-side tour states that anyone staying on the Canadian side needs a valid passport on the day.
Three kinds of night tour
| Kind | Listings | Price band | Hours | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fireworks walk | 4 | under 60 EUR | 1.5 | A guided walk with viewing spots; sold for the fireworks season, 14 or 15 May to 14 October in the listings |
| Day and evening from Toronto | 8 | 60 to 120 EUR | 8 to 11 | Coach or minibus from Toronto, 3 to 4 hours free at the falls, back after 11 PM |
| Dinner, boat or private evening | 8 | 60 to 1,000 EUR | 3.5 to 7 | Small group or private car, usually with a dinner or a boat ride |
What the price buys
Place the 20 listings by length and the three kinds separate on their own. The walks cluster at 1.5 hours, typically in the 30 to 60 EUR band. The coach days sit at 8 to 11 hours, typically 60 to 120 EUR, and they carry 1,707 of the 2,676 reviews. The evening packages in between run 3.5 to 7 hours and typically cost 120 to 250 EUR.
The two private tours, in the 120 to 250 EUR and 500 to 1,000 EUR bands, are the exceptions to compare with care: the first is priced per person, the second for the whole group, so divide that one by your party before you set it against a coach seat. The Toronto coach days are the cheapest way to get a whole evening for the money, and the least flexible: you ride home when the bus goes.
The long days from Toronto: 8 to 11 hours for 60 to 120 EUR
Eight listings are day-and-evening coaches. The ones we opened leave Toronto around 1:00 PM, spend three to four hours at the falls and bring you back after 11 PM. The Airlink Evening Tour, in the 60 to 120 EUR band, picks up at 1:00 PM on Bay Street and returns about 11:30 PM, with a three-hour free window at the falls, an optional boat, an optional Journey Behind the Falls and an optional buffet dinner at the Sheraton Fallsview. It requires a minimum of two people per booking, which is easy to miss. The Zoom Tours listing, in the same band, includes the boat and says the cruise can run after sunset, in light mist, with the illumination. A Civitatis listing in the same band runs 11 hours with a two-hour drive and four hours of leisure.
The catch is daylight. In late October, with the lights at 6:00 PM, a 1:00 PM pickup gets you to the falls around 3 PM and leaves hours to fill before dark. In summer, the 8:30 PM start and the 10:00 PM fireworks make the same schedule fit better.
Dinner packages and the Illumination Tower
The dinner-and-boat evenings cost roughly 120 to 500 EUR. The See Sight Tours Premium Night Tour, in the 120 to 250 EUR band, runs four hours. It includes a three-course dinner near the Horseshoe Falls, the Niagara City Cruises fireworks boat, a visit to the Illumination Tower and a certificate that says you lit up Niagara Falls. Pickup and drop-off are downtown in a Mercedes van, for up to 14 travelers per booking. The boat is billed as a fireworks cruise, so check what replaces it once the season ends. The same operator sells the other tiers: a four-hour evening in the same band that adds the Niagara Parks Power Station, a six-hour day-and-night combo with dinner in the same band, and a seven-hour small-group version in the 250 to 500 EUR band on the American side.
An American-side evening from Over the Falls Tours, in the 60 to 120 EUR band, includes the Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds and the Observation Tower in 3.5 hours. Two cautions. The listing says the fireworks run in June, July and August, while Niagara Parks has them nightly from 15 May to 12 October. And the Maid of the Mist's day ends at 5:00 PM from 28 September to 31 October, while the lights come on at 6:00 PM, so a boat-plus-lights evening leaves an hour or more of waiting in late October.
Winter and the Festival of Lights
In winter the lights are the show. They start at 4:30 PM, so a normal afternoon arrival sees them. One listing gives 16 November to 5 January for the Winter Festival of Lights, and two Toronto coach tours in the 60 to 120 EUR band carry its name. The boat is closed, the fireworks are gone except on New Year's Eve, and the listings swap in Journey Behind the Falls or Niagara Takes Flight. Dress for it: the tours run outdoors in all weather.
What the treaty changes after the tourist hours
There is a second change you cannot see in the listings, and it is a legal minimum, not a measured flow. Under the 1950 treaty the minimum flow over the falls is 100,000 cubic feet per second (2,832 cubic meters) in tourist hours and 50,000 (1,416 cubic meters) at any other time. The IJC gives the hours in Eastern Standard Time: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. from 1 April to 15 September, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from 16 September to 31 October. From November to March there are no tourist hours, so the lower minimum applies at every hour. The Niagara Falls page explains how the water is shared.

Where a night booking goes wrong
The first is booking a fireworks walk outside the season. One listing says it runs only from 14 May to 14 October each year. The second is trusting a listing's fireworks months, since one says June to August and another May to October. The third is the return trip: a Toronto coach brings you back around 11:30 PM, and the walking tours end where they began, so plan how you get to your hotel. The fourth is the headcount. The Airlink Evening Tour needs two people.
Questions about Niagara Falls at night
Are there fireworks at Niagara Falls in the off season?
No. The nightly series ran from 15 May to 12 October 2026 at 10:00 PM and is over. Niagara Parks lists longer shows on 1 and 4 July and a display on New Year's Eve at 8:00 PM and at midnight. We have no 2027 dates, so check the calendar before you plan an evening around them.
What time do the lights come on?
At 6:00 PM from 16 to 31 October, at 4:30 PM from 1 November to 31 December and at 8:30 PM from mid-May to July. They are switched off at 2:00 AM and run every night of the year. The table covers mid-May to July and 16 October to 31 December, and the calendar as we read it gives no start time for the other months.
Can I see Niagara Falls at night from Toronto?
Yes, on an 8 to 11 hour day-and-evening coach. The listings cost 60 to 120 EUR, leave around 1:00 PM and return near 11:30 PM. See the Toronto tours page for the daytime versions. The coaches suit a long evening more than a quick look: you ride home when the bus goes.
Do I need a tour to see the lights?
No. They are shown whether or not you book. A tour sells a guide, a boat, dinner or transport. The cheapest version is a 90-minute walk under 60 EUR, and those are sold for the fireworks season. Dinner packages and boat evenings, at roughly 60 to 1,000 EUR, add a table or a ride, not a better view of the lights.
Is there less water at night?
We cannot say: the sources we read do not give the actual flow by the hour. What changes is the treaty minimum, which is halved after the tourist hours, from 100,000 to 50,000 cubic feet per second (2,832 to 1,416 cubic meters). The IJC gives those hours in Eastern Standard Time: until 10 p.m. through 15 September, and until 8 p.m. from 16 September to 31 October. From November to March there are no tourist hours, so the minimum is 1,416 cubic meters per second at every hour.
