Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss Tours from Reykjavik

13 listings, roughly 60 to 500 EUR for a shared day, typically 120 to 250 EUR. The two falls are two stops out of five or six, and none of the tours includes lunch.

Twelve of the thirteen tours on this page are shared days, and they cost roughly 60 to 500 EUR per person, typically 120 to 250 EUR. For that you get a bus or minibus out of Reykjavik, about ten hours, and two waterfalls that charge nothing at the foot. Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss are roughly 30 km apart on the Ring Road, and the itineraries we opened mostly visit both. The tours do not stop there. The median itinerary has 5.5 stops, with Reynisfjara, Vík and often a glacier tongue crowding the day. This page is about the product as sold: who runs it, what the fare covers and leaves out, and how to pick between listings that read almost the same. How the falls formed and the rules of visiting are on the South Coast page.

The numbers describe the 13 listings we read on 22 October 2026. Check the operator's own page for exactly what a booking includes. Prices are per person, in EUR, except for the one private listing above 1,000 EUR, which Viator files as a per-person price even though it reads like a price for the booking, and which is left out of the median. The sister pages cover what changes the day: the small-group minibus, the glacier and ice cave days and the private tours. If you want to know whether a minibus changes the day, whether a glacier is worth the extra hours, or what a private day buys, the answers are there and not here.

Ratings collected by Viator, Tripadvisor, Tiqets and Civitatis

A Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss tour is mostly a road trip

Look at the clock before the scenery. Skógafoss is about 150 km from Reykjavik, two to two and a half hours of driving each way according to Guide to Iceland, and one listing puts Vík at 186 km. That is four to five hours behind the windshield just to reach Skógafoss and come back. The rest of a ten-hour day goes on the stops. The most-reviewed listing here, BusTravel Iceland's 10-hour day, visits Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara and the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue, with no lunch included.

The falls cost nothing to see. The fare pays for ten hours of somebody else's driving.
Seljalandsfoss seen from the path behind the water, with ice on the ground

Seljalandsfoss, the wet stop

Seljalandsfoss drops about 60 m in one piece, and a path loops behind the water. Listings sell that walk with the words "conditions permitting" and they mean it. When the path is icy it is closed, and the regional tourism site asks visitors to respect the closure. A Katla ice cave tour on the glacier page quotes a 45-minute stop here, the only per-stop time we found in any South Coast listing.

Bring a rain jacket even in summer. Two of the listings we opened tell you to bring waterproofs for the walk behind the fall. Gljúfrabúi, the fall hidden in a cleft just to the west, is sometimes added. One listing warns you will get wet there too, and another offers it only when conditions allow.

Seljalandsfoss or Skógafoss: what each one asks of you

People search for "Skógafoss or Seljalandsfoss" as if they had to choose. On a day tour you do not, because both are on the route. What differs is what you do at each, and that decides how much of your stop you will want.

Order in the most-reviewed listingFirst stop of fourSecond stop of four

The staircase is the one real decision. Listings count 527 steps to the platform, a climb you can skip, and on a clear day it shows the coast and Eyjafjallajökull.

The platform at the top looks down on the Skógá river as it reaches the edge, with the coast beyond.

Time is the constraint, not fitness. Nothing in the 13 listings promises a minimum at Skógafoss, so if the climb matters, ask how long the stop is before you pay.

What the fare covers and what it leaves out

Pickup is the first thing to check, and 10 of the 13 listings include it. It rarely means your hotel door. One listing names the BSÍ bus terminal and asks you to be there 15 minutes before departure; another meets at Tour Bus Stop 12 in the Höfðatorg area. On the listings we opened, Wi-Fi on board and a guide are the usual inclusions. Nothing on this page includes lunch, and the listings we opened put food and drinks in the "not included" line, so you buy it at a station or at the café by Reynisfjara.

Nothing on this page includes lunch. Pack it or budget for it.

Entry to the falls is free. Parking at the stops can be charged, which is the operator's problem on a tour and yours if you drive.

The three biggest listings sit close together, at roughly 60 to 250 EUR, for the same ten hours. Reviews separate them better than price: 305 for Gray Line, 1,801 for Reykjavik Excursions and 3,430 for BusTravel Iceland. BusTravel alone holds 59% of all the reviews on the page and sells three South Coast days here, in the 60 to 250 EUR range. Price rises when the day gets longer or adds a stop: the Lava Show in Vík, or the 13.5-hour Reykjavik Excursions day that adds the Reykjaböð hot springs.

The listing resold by Civitatis has the lowest rating of the six, 4.2 on 97 reviews. It is also the only one that mentions a small-group option, capped at 19 people. That option is where the small-group page starts.

Where the thirteen listings sit by length and price

The chart shows how flat the shared market is. Read the cluster at the bottom: ten of the twelve shared listings fall between roughly 60 and 250 EUR. The mark at the top, above 1,000 EUR, is the private listing, and it stretches the axis so far that everything else looks squashed.

Each mark is one listing by length and price. Ten of the 12 shared days sit between roughly 60 and 250 EUR; the private listing above 1,000 EUR stretches the axis. · Waterfalls Travel Editorial, from the prices of the tours listed on this site

The two dearer shared listings are Elysia Tours at 250 to 500 EUR for ten hours and G spot Iceland in the same band for nine. They have 16 and 3 reviews. That is no proof of anything, but it is a reason to read the itinerary before you pay the premium.

Choosing between them

If the falls, the black beach and Vík are the point, take a ten-hour listing at roughly 60 to 250 EUR with a few hundred reviews and read its meeting point. Pay more when something specific is on the itinerary: the lava show, the hot spring, or a smaller vehicle. For the minibus, the small-group page has days typically at 120 to 250 EUR. For a glacier walk or an ice cave, the glacier page has days typically at 500 to 1,000 EUR. For a vehicle of your own, the private page typically runs above 1,000 EUR, mostly as one price for the whole booking.

Two things the title does not tell you. Waterfalls in the name are two stops out of five or six, so if you want an hour at each, the private tours page is the way to reorder the day, and the private listing above 1,000 EUR, which meets in Hvolsvöllur and not in Reykjavik, is not comparable with the rest. And the beach: Reynisfjara is on every itinerary we opened, one listing tells guests the waves are very dangerous, and another has the guide brief on "sneaker waves". Do what the guide says.

Seljalandsfoss gets the walk behind it, Skógafoss gets the staircase. Neither gets more than a stop.

Questions about Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss tours

Can you see Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss in one day from Reykjavik?

Yes, and most tours are built that way. Skógafoss is about 150 km from the capital, two to two and a half hours by road, and Seljalandsfoss is roughly 30 km before it on the Ring Road. The tours here run about 10 hours with Reynisfjara and Vík added, so expect a long day with short stops.

How much does a Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss tour cost?

Shared day tours on this page cost roughly 60 to 500 EUR per person, typically 120 to 250 EUR, and ten of the twelve sit between roughly 60 and 250 EUR. The one private listing costs more than 1,000 EUR. Viator files it as a per-person price, but at that level check the checkout total, and do not compare it with the shared days.

Is the walk behind Seljalandsfoss open in winter?

Not reliably. The regional tourism site asks visitors to respect path closures, and listings sell the walk as conditions permitting or when not icy. Ask the operator on the day. When it is open, expect to get wet.

How long do you get at each waterfall?

Most listings do not say. The only stop time we found in any South Coast listing is 45 minutes at Seljalandsfoss on a Katla ice cave tour. On a ten-hour day with five or six stops and four to five hours of driving, 45 minutes to an hour per stop is the ceiling, so ask the operator for the schedule.
